A Relaxing Haven

Built in 1849 for a retiring colonel from the Raj, Fernhill has been a hotel for almost 100 years. During that time it has been developed significantly into the relaxing haven it is today.

Our ethos is to provide you with a warm welcoming environment in which to relax. In this busy world it is so important to have ‘time out’ either by yourself or with friends & family,  and our team of local staff love to help you do this!

We are happy to help you plan your stay, book taxis or restaurants and make sure any special requirements you have are easily taken care of.

It’s why many people return to us year after year for their quality time away.

Walking & Nature
Fernhill is on the Jurassic Coastal Path diversion – access to more than 250 miles of coastal walks, which you can start from our front door! The Jurassic Coastal Bus stops at the bottom of our drive so very convenient for longer journeys without the car.

Fossil Hunting
The Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre and Lyme Regis Museum are both excellent resources for those interested in all things Jurassic and Fossil hunting. We lend you the tools free of charge to find your own piece of Jurassic history.

Romantic Breaks
Check out our Romance package or create your own – long walks along uncrowded beaches with incredible countryside and sea views; take a Literary Tour of Lyme Regis to learn more about its links to Jane Austen & John Fowles, or simply enjoy a relaxing break away from day-to-day life and spend quality time together.

Celebrity Chef connections
We have plenty to delight the passionate foodie through breakfast, lunch & dinner made from locally sourced produce. We are also lucky to have some Celebrity Chefs as our neighbours. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall’s River Cottage HQ and Axminster Canteen are both within 7 miles of the Hotel – and provide a whole host of courses & dinners to enjoy (you may even meet the man himself!) Mark Hix’s Oyster & Fish house overlooking the Cobb at Lyme Regis is another great choice, and he also runs a cookery school from his house in Charmouth (walking distance from Fernhill)
