For those looking for more rigorous exercise the village of Charmouth is only a mile away and Lyme Regis is 2 miles’ walk. Beware of the hills – as the journey home may be more challenging than the way there!
Just next door is the established Lyme Regis Golf course – a must for visiting golfers, where guests of Fernhill enjoy special rates. The course was founded in 1893 and enjoys constant praise from visitors for the exceptional quality of its greens. Occupying a cliff-top site with coastland views to Portland Bill and overlooking Lyme Regis, the magnificent views cannot be beaten.
The Jurassic coastline is just a mile away, a World Heritage site because of its outstanding earth scientific interest, representing 185 million years of the earth’s history. This international recognition, which many agree is long-awaited and much deserved, places the coastline alongside some of the most famous places in the world such as the Great Barrier Reef, the Great Wall of China, the Galapagos Islands, the Acropolis and the Taj Mahal. Many sections of this coast and countryside have already been nominated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Sites of Special Scientific Interest or Heritage Sites and the wealth of wildlife here is widely recognised.
